Hello,
I was planning to have a cable connection installed instead of a telecom connection.
In our case, the street ends at the beginning of our property and still needs to be extended.
Telecom charges a flat fee of €800 for the house connection, regardless of how many meters of cable need to be laid under the street.
Unity Media says their flat fee includes only 10 meters on public and private land. Every additional meter costs €100.
When I asked if the neighbors who come after me would benefit because the network expansion would then be further along, the answer was yes. So I would basically be paying for the network expansion for the neighbor just because my connection is first.
The city shows no intention of covering the network expansion cost or distributing it among property owners based on the size of their plots.
At the moment, I see it as just bad luck for me and feel like I have to bite the bullet, or otherwise, I will have to settle for the slower telecom connection.
Do you see it this way too, or does anyone have an idea how I might get any party involved to agree on a fair redistribution?
Thank you.

As already mentioned, I have now also received the offer from Unity Media, which I don’t want to withhold from you. I had to laugh out loud.

New connection to the Unitymedia broadband network,
including house entry and - if possible coordinated with other utility providers - trenching on private property.
Installation of a distribution point with up to 1.0 meter (3.3 feet) of internal in-wall cable laying.
Construction costs: When placing an order (excluding mobile services)
☐ €4,489.57 (including VAT)
Without ordering a product
☐ €5,040.57 (including VAT)
Reason for the additional costs: 36 meters (118 feet) of extra trenching on public land and 4 meters (13 feet) on private land.
Depending on local conditions, a recalculation may be necessary.
The builder will be informed before the start of construction. In this case, the installation will only proceed if the applicant agrees to bear the costs of any additional effort.
There’s nothing funny about that. I actually think it’s still a good price for the 36m (118 feet) in the public area.
You could ask the telecom provider about a fiber optic connection through the “More Bandwidth for Me” program. They will install an exclusive fiber optic line to your house, but the cost can quickly reach 20,000.

The telecom provider is even obliged to supply a connection free of charge to a permanently occupied building under construction, with the termination point located on the outside wall. They really don’t like doing this, but they have to. It becomes especially frustrating if the customer requests this but then signs the contract with another provider. However, there is nothing they can do in that case. On the other hand, there are new development areas with fiber-to-the-home service where they have secured exclusive rights for 10 years. In those cases, you have to sign the contract with them. Karsten

But I am also supposed to dig the trench myself, is that correct?
