Hello,
I was planning to have a cable connection installed instead of a telecom connection.
In our case, the street ends at the beginning of our property and still needs to be extended.
Telecom charges a flat fee of €800 for the house connection, regardless of how many meters of cable need to be laid under the street.
Unity Media says their flat fee includes only 10 meters on public and private land. Every additional meter costs €100.
When I asked if the neighbors who come after me would benefit because the network expansion would then be further along, the answer was yes. So I would basically be paying for the network expansion for the neighbor just because my connection is first.
The city shows no intention of covering the network expansion cost or distributing it among property owners based on the size of their plots.
At the moment, I see it as just bad luck for me and feel like I have to bite the bullet, or otherwise, I will have to settle for the slower telecom connection.
Do you see it this way too, or does anyone have an idea how I might get any party involved to agree on a fair redistribution?
Thank you.

With Unitymedia, there are many ways to reach your goal. There are local representatives or the builder hotline, which might be able to turn your construction into a small project so you only pay a fair share. Do you have a UM office nearby that you can visit?
Oh, and one more thing: I would still recommend installing Telekom; it’s always good to have a second option!

No, I don’t know of an office here, but try searching in the surrounding area. However, these are usually real estate agents trying to sell products, right? I don’t believe they know more than the home builder service.
I spoke with the home builder service, so I know this. According to them, it will still take 10 weeks to even prepare a negotiable offer.
For the second connection (cable vs. telecom), I had planned an empty conduit to install the alternative connection two years later, so I can also take advantage of the 400€ discount.

My question about whether the neighbors moving in after us would benefit from more advanced network expansion was answered affirmatively. So I would be paying for the network expansion for the neighbor just because I get to build first.Have you coordinated with the neighbors?
Maybe they are also interested in the cable and would be willing to share the costs?
How many meters (feet) are we talking about here?

But first have the telecommunications connection installed (ducting for cables), and when there are neighbors who are also interested in cable, start a conversation? Yes, exactly, that is the alternative for now.
I spoke with the city again, and they said whether the expansion happens or not is up to the network operator.
I called Unity Media, and they said planning for expansion is the city’s responsibility. The city would issue a tender and usually decide between cable or telecom.
I called the city again and told them what Unity Media said, and they just shook their head. What probably happens is that the city notifies network operators about new development areas, and the operators can then get involved in planning if they consider it profitable.
However, that notification will only happen next year here, because only then will the second construction phase be implemented.
For me, that means going with telecom now, waiting, and hoping Unity Media will join in later.
Thanks for your input.
