ᐅ Shower Tray or Tiled Shower Base?

Hello,

Since our builder does not charge extra whether we choose a tiled shower or a shower tray, we are now considering what to install in our children's bathroom. Is it possible to waterproof a tiled shower floor with a glass enclosure just as effectively as a shower tray (where the surface the shower enclosure rests on is level)? Do tiled showers require more cleaning on the floor? We are also wondering if a patterned glass enclosure might be easier to maintain, as limescale is less visible. A clear glass enclosure probably needs to be squeegeed after every use, which my children definitely would not do. What do you think?

Best regards,
Sabine

My shower is enclosed. A side effect of the underfloor heating in the shower is that it dries faster after use.

And yes, I also find shower trays uncomfortably slippery. In the past, people sometimes used these "anti-slip mats" with rubber feet for that...

Our level-access shower tray has an anti-slip coating that is barely visible. No matter how hard I try, it doesn’t slip at all.

Why is everyone always so worried? In our shower, a shower tray element or whatever it's called was installed under the tiles, and then the tiles were laid on top. If there is any leakage, it would only be at the edge by the wall, and a normal shower tray can also leak there.

That's why we simply don’t have underfloor heating in the shower.

Our shower is tiled and does not have underfloor heating. I don’t miss it at all and do not have cold feet.

I agree with you that the feeling of warmth in an open shower is generally not as good as in an enclosed shower cabin. It feels colder because the warm water vapor freely dissipates into the room instead of being contained within a cabin.
You can also look at it the other way – in an open shower, the ambient temperature equals the room temperature. This eliminates, among other things, the “cold” sensation when stepping out of the enclosure.

I’m glad to have an open shower again (I’m sensitive to cold).

I would say that a tiled shower is generally easier to keep clean. The water dries faster than in a bathtub.
