I have been having an issue with my Ikea Hemnes bed frame for some time now. It starts to creak as soon as I move or lie down in the bed. The squeaking noises mainly come from the joints where the wooden slats connect to the frame. Although I seem to have assembled everything correctly, these annoying sounds keep occurring, which is especially frustrating at night. My question is: Why does the Ikea Hemnes bed squeak so often? What are the most common causes of squeaking with this model, and what measures are recommended to resolve this problem permanently and with minimal effort? I would appreciate any tips and practical experiences, including suggestions for tools or suitable lubricants that can reliably eliminate the squeaking.

The squeaking in Hemnes furniture often results from the combination of laminated wood panels and fasteners, which can slightly shift under pressure. The slats of the spring system, in particular, may move and cause noise. Sometimes tightening the screws and then treating the contact points with a dry lubricant such as graphite or beeswax helps. It is important not to use liquid oil, as it can soften the wood and attract dust. For those who disassemble the frame, applying some crepe tape at critical points can also reduce direct friction.

I know this frustration very well; the annoying creaking at night can really keep you awake. For me, regularly tightening the screws wasn’t always enough. Only a combination of tightening the screws, treating the contact surfaces with beeswax, and occasionally adjusting a small set screw on the slatted bed base significantly reduced the problem. You need patience because some noises may return with humidity or temperature changes, but with a bit of effort, you will be able to control the creaking.

Also check if individual bolts or connectors are slightly damaged or deformed. Some squeaky beds squeak because a wing nut or timber bracket is no longer properly seated. If you notice this, replace the part or cushion it with felt tape. Otherwise, tightening screws and applying beeswax to the wood surfaces are the most effective methods in practice.
