Hello everyone, I have a somewhat unusual question: Why do the doors in the Kallax shelving unit sometimes close by themselves, even though there is no apparent force acting on them? I feel that it’s not just due to incorrect adjustment or a defect, but perhaps related to physical or mechanical properties that I don’t fully understand yet. It would be great if someone could explain this phenomenon, ideally with advice on how to influence or prevent this behavior. Thanks in advance!

Besides mechanical causes, environmental factors should not be underestimated. That’s a good point, I hadn’t thought of that yet. Although my apartment is fairly draft-free, I will definitely keep that in mind. Should I also check whether the doors are rubbing too much? If they catch or feel resistance somewhere, could that also affect movement?
This is great, seeing so much information gathered here already! 🙂 I had similar issues with my Kallax, and I can definitely confirm: especially when the floor isn’t completely level, you immediately notice it at the door, which keeps closing on its own.
What also helped me was sticking small felt strips to the inside of the door. They absorb the movement really well and prevent the door from slamming shut. Truly a simple and effective trick!

Thank you all for the helpful responses! To summarize:
1. The floor should be truly level, as slight inclines can cause doors to close by themselves.
2. Check that the hinge screws are tightly fastened; loose screws can alter the door’s hanging.
3. Drafts in the room can simulate door movement.
4. Mechanical aids like felt strips help prevent doors from slamming shut.
I will check and try all of this in the next few days. If I have any more questions, I will get back to you. Thanks again for the great support! 🙂
