Hello everyone,
I have recently noticed several times that some confirmat screws do not sit firmly, even though it looks like they were tightened correctly. My question is: Why do some confirmat screws remain loose, despite being tightened with the correct tool and according to the instructions?
I am mainly thinking about factors such as the material used, thread quality, or possibly installation errors. I am interested in whether there are specific reasons why this problem occurs more frequently with confirmat screws and how it can be reliably prevented.
Does anyone have experience with this topic and can provide technical background or practical tips?

For furniture joinery, so-called screw-in dowels are often a practical solution. If Malm screws do not hold firmly, the core of the drill hole may be too large or too soft, meaning the material does not properly grip the threads. If possible, use dowels or slightly rework the hole.

partly also with lightweight metal profilesCorrosion at the interface or galvanic effects could be a factor here. Metal connections involving different materials are prone to loosening due to stress. Additionally, it is advisable to use locking devices such as threadlocker or spring washers.

Why not inquire with a rivet or specialty screw manufacturer? They produce screws with precisely defined properties that minimize such problems.

Why do some Malm screws not hold securely, even when tightened with the correct tool and according to the instructions?Great question! I’m very familiar with this issue – it’s really frustrating when a screw just won’t grip properly.
In my experience, sometimes the material simply doesn’t cooperate. But I’ve tried something: using screws with light locking washers or applying a few drops of threadlocker – and suddenly it’s much more secure! Being patient while tightening also goes a long way ;-)
Keep at it, don’t give up when tightening screws firmly! 🙂
