Hello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen renovation and considering whether to use the Ikea Metod corner cabinets. My main question is how durable and functional these corner cabinets really are in everyday use. Specifically, I am interested in how well the storage space can be utilized, whether the doors or drawers operate smoothly, and how stable the hinges and mechanisms remain after extended use. It would also be helpful to hear if anyone has experience with the different corner cabinet solutions – for example, carousel or Le Mans pull-outs. I appreciate any practical tips, personal experiences, and also advice on problems or limitations to keep in mind. Thanks in advance!

I would like to raise a slightly provocative question: Does it really have to be an Ikea Metod corner cabinet? Personally, I feel that the high level of standardization also brings certain limitations when it comes to individual requirements.

I installed an Ikea Metod corner cabinet with a carousel system a year ago and am generally satisfied.

If you are generally satisfied, then the question is whether the compromise between standard dimensions and functionality is enough for you. In my opinion, those who want more should also invest more and look into custom solutions – even if that involves a bit more effort.

But if you rely on practical, proven solutions, then the Ikea models are certainly a good choice.

I’d also like to share a brief experience: the carousel corner cabinet is used daily in our kitchen and works well for smaller items like spices and baking tools. However, I’ve noticed that when it’s fully loaded, the weight affects the carousel mechanism, and sometimes it feels a bit harder to turn.

I can partially agree with that. The modules are clearly limited for custom needs, but for me, Ikea’s price-performance ratio is unbeatable.

One more thing: when assembling, I would make sure to mount the front panel very precisely, as corner cabinets can look unattractive otherwise.

Additionally, it should be mentioned that the construction of these corner cabinets is designed to transfer weight primarily to the floor and the frame profile. Although the carousel is a moving part, it must not be overloaded.

In my experience, the hinges tend to become loose quickly with frequent opening if the screws are not regularly adjusted. I would consider this part of standard maintenance.

Very good advice, as such issues often only become noticeable after completion.

An important technical note: Ikea Metod corner cabinets usually have an installation width of 80 cm (31.5 inches), which means the internal dimensions for drawers or carousel mechanisms are correspondingly smaller. It is therefore crucial to accurately measure the actual depth and access space and compare these with the product specifications to avoid space issues.

In my opinion, Ikea corner cabinets are suitable for beginners or renovators who do not require a custom-made solution. The assembly instructions are clear, and the components are modular, allowing for later expansion.

After several years of use in my experience, there have been no major issues, except that the hinges occasionally needed readjusting.

I would also like to address the topic of ergonomics: In my view, it is especially important to consider how easily users can manage the available storage space in corner cabinets.

Le Mans pull-outs are generally more practical because they extend the entire contents, providing better access. The carousel corner cabinet often has dead corners that are hard to reach unless you regularly reorganize everything.

From an ergonomic perspective, comfort is therefore a crucial factor and should definitely carry weight in the decision-making process.

That was exactly my experience as well. In the end, I ordered the carousel because I needed something quickly at the time. But if I had to decide today, I would definitely choose the Le Mans pull-outs.

I also find it reassuring to have the entire contents visible in front of you instead of having to feel around inside the cabinet. At first, I was skeptical about the more complicated installation, but it has really paid off in daily use.

Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, it has been very helpful!
