Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an IKEA Metod kitchen and want to make sure I have the right tools ready to make the assembly as smooth and efficient as possible. I am particularly interested in recommendations for tools that have proven especially useful, specifically for mounting the cabinets, securing the countertops, and aligning the fronts. Are there any tools that should definitely not be missing, and perhaps any small tips for their use? I appreciate advice suitable for both beginners and more experienced DIYers.
I’m really happy to see so many helpful tips gathered here! 🙂
When I was assembling my kitchen last year, I was also amazed at how important a good cordless drill is. The most fun came when I realized I could work fairly quickly with certain bits.
Good lighting during assembly is also crucial – I used a small headlamp to help, since it can be difficult to reach some corners.
If anyone feels unsure: just keep at it, it gets easier with each step! You can do it!

I’m curious about how it was during longer sessions. Isn’t the physical strain too much?Exactly, manual work over several hours is extremely demanding, especially for wrists and shoulders. Therefore, electric assistance is essential for frequent screwing tasks. At least a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque reduces muscle fatigue while maintaining consistently good assembly quality. For the stability of the structure, the correct screw tightness is essential.
My two cents: For the cabinets, a cordless drill with the appropriate bits, a spirit level, and a rubber mallet are essential.
When installing countertops, an angle grinder or a jigsaw can be helpful if adjustments are needed.
No special tools are necessary; simple aids are usually sufficient.

Small pliers for dowels and connectors I can definitely confirm that. At first, I had trouble inserting the dowels properly into the drilled holes, and pliers really help with that.
And regarding time: Make sure to allow yourself plenty of time and take breaks regularly. Stress won’t help, especially when you need to pay attention to details like aligning the cabinets.
I wish everyone good luck!
