ᐅ Which types of subfloors are particularly stable for PAX installations?

TelojonHello everyone, I am currently looking into the stability of the shelves in the IKEA PAX wardrobe system. My question is: Which shelves in the PAX system are particularly sturdy and suitable for heavier loads, such as several filled binders or heavy clothing? I am especially interested in whether there are differences in material thickness or design, and if there are any shelves outside the standard system that might be recommended. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

These are sturdy enough for regular use, such as storing clothes or light items. For heavier loads, like multiple binders or heavy shoes, it is advisable to use the white "reinforced shelves" from IKEA, which have an additional metal reinforcement underneath the board. These are significantly more durable and prevent sagging. Alternatively, you can fit thicker wooden boards into the system yourself, but this requires more carpentry skills.
Oh yes, I bought the reinforced shelves and I am absolutely thrilled! They really hold a lot; I store file folders and even small devices on them without any problems. 😊 The investment is definitely worth it, especially if you plan to store heavy and bulky items. Additionally, the shelves are well made and fit perfectly into the PAX system.

Also, I wonder whether the metal frame beneath the board might eventually corrode, or if IKEA uses coated materials here. Does anyone have precise information or perhaps personal long-term experience with this?
It should be noted that the load capacity also depends on the width of the cabinet and the length of the shelf. A 50 kg (110 lbs) limit usually applies to standard widths. With very wide shelves, the load capacity can be lower due to increased sagging. I would recommend carefully reading the assembly instructions before purchasing or, if in doubt, installing damped or additional central supports.
