Hello everyone, I currently have an Ikea PAX wardrobe system and am considering how to expand it as flexibly as possible, especially with additional containers, baskets, or inserts to better organize the storage space. My question is: Can Ikea PAX be extended with extra containers and baskets? I would like to know if there are compatible accessories not only from Ikea itself but also from third-party suppliers or universal options, and whether there are any limitations regarding load capacity, installation, or system compatibility. I would appreciate concrete user experiences or product recommendations.

Aurelasau11 Apr 2024 08:17Thank you for the responses so far, they have been very helpful! I have one more question: Are there any specific limitations regarding the depth or width of the baskets that should be considered? Also, what about the load capacity if I want to store heavy clothing or shoes? I have read that some baskets can only support up to a certain weight. If anyone has experience with non-IKEA containers in PAX systems, I would appreciate practical tips or potential issues to watch out for.

Are there any specific limitations regarding the depth or width of the baskets that should be considered? And what about the load capacity if I want to store heavy clothing or shoes?Exactly, here are some basics:
- Depth: PAX systems usually come in depths of 35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches). The baskets should be matched precisely to these depths; otherwise, they won’t fit properly or may protrude.
- Width: The modules are standardized in widths of 50 cm (20 inches), 75 cm (30 inches), or 100 cm (39 inches). This must also be considered for baskets.
- Load capacity: IKEA baskets generally support 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs), sometimes more for metal baskets. If you plan to store shoes, pay attention to sturdy constructions—plastic boxes tend to be less durable.
Non-IKEA containers must also match these dimensions but don’t always fit perfectly. It’s advisable to measure carefully before purchasing.

If anyone has experience with non-Ikea containers in PAX systems, I would be interested in practical tips or common issues.I once installed baskets from a third-party supplier that were initially a tight fit, but with some adjustments it worked fine – a bit of sanding on the edges helped. Otherwise, it’s better to look for bedroom drawers at a hardware store that are cut to size. Sometimes you pay more for a perfect fit, but the investment is worthwhile!
Wow, great discussion! I just want to add: My tip is to think not only about baskets but also about other inserts like drawers or hanging systems for PAX. This way, you can customize the storage space even more individually and adapt it to your needs. Sometimes these solutions are even more practical than baskets. Just try them out and tailor your organization to what works best for you – it’s really enjoyable!
