Hello everyone,

I am planning to equip some IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with glass doors and am now wondering which screws are best suited for this purpose. The door frames are quite delicate, so it is important to me that the screws not only hold securely but also do not cause any damage to the doors or surrounding materials.

Does anyone have experience with recommended screw lengths, materials, and thread types to ensure a secure fit while also allowing for easy installation and, if necessary, later adjustments? I am especially interested in whether it is better to use the original screws supplied with the IKEA Metod glass doors or to opt for specialized fasteners.

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

For the precise selection of screws for IKEA Metod glass doors, I recommend:

- Screws with a hex socket head: Better torque control reduces the risk of over-tightening.
- Stainless steel A2: A good balance of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
- A length of 12 mm (0.5 inches) is ideal, as the profiles are about this thick and no penetrating parts are damaged.

Additionally, carefully pre-drilling to the correct diameter is crucial to maintain the material’s integrity. Be sure to choose the right size for the thread (usually 3.5 mm (0.14 inches) diameter for Metod).

These precautions help protect the glass and frame over the long term.

I completely agree. The hex socket really helps. It’s much easier to tighten precisely without damaging the screw.

I can confirm this. Stainless steel and a maximum length of 12 mm (0.5 inches) are ideal. Screws that are too long were a source of problems for me.

Additionally, I would like to mention:

If you buy screws yourself, be sure to pay attention to the screw heads. Flat heads or countersunk heads are often not ideal, as they can damage the fiber material of the aluminum-glass frame. Screws with a slightly larger, rounded head that distributes pressure are ideal.

For pre-drilling, use a drill bit that is about 70-80% of the screw diameter, so the thread can grip well without damaging the surface.

One last tip: when selecting screws, always use the small plastic or rubber washers included in the installation kit to dampen vibrations and extend the lifespan of the doors.

If desired, I can also provide recommendations for suitable screw types from specialized manufacturers in the DIY sector.
