Hello everyone, I am currently planning to purchase an IKEA PAX wardrobe for my bedroom and would like to gather some targeted information: Which IKEA PAX wardrobe types offer the most flexibility inside when it comes to customizing different storage options (e.g., hanging rods, shelves, drawers, baskets) according to individual needs? It is especially important to me whether the flexibility in height adjustment and the ability to combine interior modules varies significantly between different frame widths and depths. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Are there reliable sources confirming that the 50 cm (20 inch) models offer more combination options, or is that just an assumption?

I checked the IKEA product descriptions: The frames with a 50 cm (20 inch) depth are compatible with a wider range of insert modules, especially when it comes to drawers and baskets, because the extra depth allows for different sizes. The 35 cm (14 inch) models are more optimized for hanging clothes and less suitable for storing foldable boxes or wide drawers.

In addition, it should be considered that the interior layout also depends heavily on the accessories. There are universal interior fittings as well as modules specifically optimized for 35 or 50 cm (14 or 20 inches) deep Pax units. The 100 cm (39 inches) wide frames also allow for divided sections, which make the storage space more multifunctional. Combining multiple Pax units further increases versatility through mounting options, such as using center partition walls.

During the installation, it was especially important to me to be able to position clothes rails at different heights. The PAX frames with a depth of 50 cm (20 inches) offer multiple mounting levels, so I can easily adjust the setup if the requirements change.

Thanks for the hint, that makes sense. I was considering combining several rather narrow modules, but a wider unit with divisions does indeed sound more flexible for changing needs.

That fits well with my plan, since I also want to store larger shoes and bags – drawers are helpful for that.

Do you have experience with hinged doors versus sliding doors regarding the adjustment of the interior modules? Does the type of door affect the kind of internal layout or its flexibility?
