Hello everyone, I am currently looking into Ikea wardrobes, especially the PAX systems, and would like to get information regarding the integrated LED lighting. My question is: Which specific Ikea PAX models come with LED lighting? I am particularly interested in whether certain frames or wardrobe types are equipped with LED strips or lighting inserts, or if the LEDs are only available as accessories. Essentially, I want to know if there are PAX variants that come from the factory with LED solutions and how these compare to adding them later as upgrades. Perhaps someone also knows the differences between the various light sources within the PAX system? Thanks in advance for detailed information!
I’d be happy to clarify the situation regarding Ikea PAX models with LED lighting:
- Basically, Ikea does not supply PAX wardrobes with built-in LED lighting in the traditional sense. Instead, there are various LED components available as accessories that can be modularly integrated into the PAX system.
- These include LED strips, LED spotlights, and LED lighting kits compatible with PAX.
- This means: the wardrobe models themselves come without built-in LEDs, but Ikea offers specially designed LED strips and spotlights that can be easily mounted on the inside edges or shelves.
- Important: the accessories are usually dimmable and often equipped with motion sensors, which is especially practical for wardrobe lighting.
A typical example of the accessories are the “Ledberg” LED strips, which can be perfectly attached along the upper inside edge of the PAX doors, as well as the “NÄVLINGE” LED spotlights, which can be recessed into the shelves.
In summary, Ikea has chosen a flexible lighting concept with accessories for the PAX system rather than fixed, built-in lighting. If you want continuous lighting without aftermarket installation, you will most likely need to retrofit it yourself or use a separate system.
It is also important to check before planning if the power supply of the accessories is suitable and how to route the cables discreetly.

At first, I was unsure if the lighting would be sufficient, but it definitely makes daily use much more comfortable. Especially when searching in the evening, the interior is well illuminated.
What was important to me: the installation is straightforward, and the option to connect motion sensors adds extra convenience, as you don’t have to turn the light on manually.

To my knowledge, this is currently not officially available with PAX. I would be interested to know if anyone has already implemented something similar using third-party LEDs.

From my own experience, I can say that I also wished back then for a PAX with built-in LED lighting. Unfortunately, Ikea’s system is designed so that the lighting is always sold separately as an accessory.
As a consolation, I can add that these LEDs are of good quality and work well – you just have to be careful and have some basic DIY skills. While permanently integrated lighting would be great, more practical, and also aesthetically cleaner, I have learned that the modularity of PAX is also an advantage since you can replace or add LEDs later on.
I would be interested to know if anyone in this forum has done custom modifications or what alternatives might be available if you are looking for built-in LED lighting.
