TARBE58Hello everyone, I am currently planning the setup of my bedroom and am very interested in the Ikea Pax system. Since I want to combine different furniture pieces directly, my main question is: Which Ikea Pax furniture items work well together for the bedroom, especially when you want to optimally combine storage and aesthetics? I am thinking of wardrobes, sliding doors, shelves, possibly dressers or accessories that can be usefully added. For me, functionality, precise coordination, and of course a harmonious overall look are most important. Does anyone have experience or recommendations on which Pax configurations have proven particularly successful in practice? Tips on room planning and material/color combinations are also welcome. Thanks in advance!
Hello TARBE58, I love the Pax system! For the bedroom, a large wardrobe with sliding doors is often enough and saves space. I also added dressers from the Malm series next to it, which complements it perfectly and looks very modern! Especially the combination of white fronts with mirrored or glass sliding doors really brightens up the room. Tip: Use the interior fittings with drawers, pull-outs, and shelves to keep everything organized and have quick access to your belongings. It’s really enjoyable when everything is well arranged! This way, you create a real cozy retreat in your bedroom.
I would like to suggest a structured approach for effectively combining the Pax system: - Start with precise room measurements, especially height and width - Plan the layout of interior components in advance (shelves, clothes rails, drawers) according to your needs - For bedrooms, I often recommend a combination of at least one wide wardrobe with sliding doors to save space, along with individual Pax units with doors or open compartments for other items - Additional features like built-in lighting can make handling easier - In terms of color, classic white pairs well with light wood finishes or contrasting handles - Important: Check whether you want to position the furniture freely within the room or fix it to the wall, as this affects the choice of doors (wardrobe doors with handles sometimes require more space than sliding doors) In summary, the key is to align your storage requirements precisely with the room size and intended use. This helps avoid wasted space and achieves a harmonious overall look.

For bedrooms, I often recommend a combination of at least one wide wardrobe with sliding doors to save space and individual Pax shelving units with doors or open compartments for other items.I can build on that and add some technical details: The maximum height of a Pax wardrobe is typically 236 cm (93 inches), which is sufficient for most rooms. However, if you have a suspended ceiling, you should check the internal dimensions carefully. The flexibility of the system allows you to combine elements of different depths – for example, 35 cm (14 inches) depth for shelves and 58 cm (23 inches) for hanging clothes. Make sure to use sliding doors only when mounted against a wall, as they are more stable than freestanding units without attachment. Equally important is the optimal interaction between internal layout and door mechanism – if you frequently change clothes, doors with mirrors and shelves behind them might be useful.
Use Ikea’s planning software, but complement the data with actual measurements of your room (windows, radiators, light switches). If the ceiling height is limited, a lower solution with additional dressers or sideboards might be more effective. No combination works universally; it really needs to be tailored to the individual room situation.

Which Ikea Pax furniture pieces combine well for the bedroom, especially when aiming to optimally balance storage and aesthetics? From my practical perspective, there are clear combination options that suit bedrooms particularly well due to their design and modular construction:
- A classic Pax wardrobe with a width of 150–200 cm (59–79 inches) featuring sliding doors: optimizes space usage without obstructive door swings
- Additional shelves or Pax dressers (e.g., 50–100 cm wide / 20–39 inches) for folded clothes or accessories
- Interior fittings such as various drawers, tie or belt holders
- Matte finishes in neutral colors like white, gray, or birch are easy to maintain and versatile
The combination of optimized storage and minimalist design creates a harmonious overall look, making the bedroom feel calm and tidy. Additional furniture from other ranges, for example the Malm system, can be used complementarily but should be matched in color and style.
Avoid overcrowding the room edges with too many individual pieces, as visual clarity is always essential in a bedroom.
I would like to add an often underestimated aspect: considering everyday use.
- Sliding doors on the Pax wardrobe are great if your bedroom is rather small and the access to the closet is frequently used. However, they are a bit more complicated to install and retrofit.
- If storage for different types of clothing (e.g., pants, shirts, shoes) is needed, a modular interior layout helps: use drawers, laundry compartments, and hanging rods strategically.
- In my experience, a combination of two smaller Pax wardrobes is more flexible than one large one because it better adapts to different room situations and uses.
If your room has special architectural features (such as slanted ceilings or niches), Pax combined with other furniture elements from Ikea also offers possibilities for custom solutions or tailored combinations of individual units.
If you like, you can share your room dimensions, and more specific advice can be provided.
Good luck with your planning!
