I am planning to get a Pax wardrobe from Ikea and am looking for combinations that offer the best value for money. It is important to me not only to consider the initial cost but also the flexibility of the modules, storage optimization, and the enhancement of living space through design. Which Pax combinations would you recommend for a balanced mix of price, quality, functionality, and appearance? Are there any proven tips on how to complement the usually affordable basic frame with useful accessories without making it unnecessarily expensive? I would also appreciate experience reports with different measurements or features (e.g., doors, shelves, drawers). Thanks for your answers!

This combination is not the cheapest, but it is very cost-effective due to optimal space utilization and functionality. If cost is very important to you, choose standard doors and fewer drawers. That saves the most.

Sliding doors could be practical since the room isn’t very wide, but I’m unsure about the additional cost.I can confirm that sliding doors really save space but tend to cost about 30-40% more than traditional doors. However, you should consider that folding doors are a more affordable alternative, though they require more room to open. With a room depth of at least 60 cm (24 inches), folding doors could still be a viable option.
Additionally, I recommend choosing Pax units with a white carcass, as combining them with white or mirrored doors visually enlarges the space. If you plan to install hanging rails, having two clothing rods (one at the top and one at the bottom) is practical to make the most of the available space.
A small tip: Some buyers have reported that cutting the interior components on-site is often cheaper if you stay flexible during planning and use standard dimensions – this way everything fits together better and there are fewer extra costs.
I feel the same way. Last year, I put together my PAX system and was quite undecided about the price-performance ratio.
I can only agree with that. I initially tried to save in the wrong areas and then ended up spending more on accessories. In the end, it was more expensive and less practical. Thanks to a recommendation from PULAU here and planning with standard dimensions, I was able to expand everything modularly, and later adjustments were considerably cheaper.
I think the most important thing with PAX is to plan the specific usage before buying, especially regarding hanging space and shelves. If the room is small, it makes sense to have fewer but well-placed drawers. It also helped me to buy PAX parts when they were on sale, which can further reduce the price.
All in all: stay calm, plan carefully, and avoid including too many extras in the system.
