Hello everyone, I am currently working on assembling an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe set and want to prepare well by having the necessary assembly tools ready. My question is: which tools are especially helpful for assembling Ikea Hemnes furniture and make the process easier, particularly for the larger models? For example, I have already considered a cordless drill, a hex key (Allen wrench), or a rubber mallet, but I would appreciate your specific recommendations and experiences with assembly tools to ensure the build goes as smoothly as possible without any damage.

I also recommend using a clamp when working with smaller parts to hold them securely. This makes assembly easier, especially when working alone.

I almost forgot: gloves can be helpful, especially when working on the side panels. This isn’t exactly a tool, but it protects your hands when holding the furniture parts. Another practical tip: a mat or blanket on the floor protects the Hemnes pieces from scratches.

I see this as a small toolkit for anyone looking to assemble the Hemnes: - Cordless or manual drill driver with torque control - Hex keys in standard sizes (often 4mm, 5mm) - Rubber mallet for gently inserting dowels - Phillips screwdriver - Spirit level, especially for larger cabinets - Clamp for extra stability when screwing it all together This setup makes the assembly much more pleasant and helps avoid frustration. And yes, a bit of patience is part of the process 😉.

A good cordless screwdriver is almost indispensable.

Thanks for the tip! Do you prefer corded tools for this, or is a battery-powered one enough? My concern is that the battery might run out while on site.

The ones included by Ikea are quite short and thin. Do you have any brand recommendations for more durable hex keys that don’t slip easily?

I use tools from Wera and Hazet. They are a bit more expensive but offer better grip, are heat-treated, and don’t bend easily. Especially when working with furniture, it makes sense not to skimp on tools. The investment is worth it.

In my opinion, a good battery is completely sufficient. It is important that the screwdriver has adjustable torque to prevent over-tightening of thin screws. So, I would focus more on the quality of the cordless screwdriver rather than whether it is corded or battery-powered.
