Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the assembly of an IKEA Metod kitchen island and am looking for proven installation tips that are especially helpful when putting together these kitchen units. The Metod island will be freestanding in my kitchen, which makes the assembly somewhat more complex than with standard kitchen base units. Important are tips on stabilizing the island, precisely aligning the modules, and properly attaching the countertop and appliances.

Are there any experiences with the method of connecting the carcasses to each other, special tools that make the assembly easier, or tricks to avoid common fitting problems?

I am looking forward to many suggestions and also to typical pitfalls that should definitely be avoided when assembling a Metod kitchen island.

If the modules don’t fit perfectly despite all precautions, a small rubber mallet often helps

Absolutely! And my motto: keep going and don’t get discouraged.

An extra tip from me: have some coffee or tea ready from time to time, so the assembly becomes a little enjoyable break. That way even the toughest DIY marathon is more fun. 😄

Remove back panels if adjustments are necessary.
Install the countertop using screws on the designated brackets, not directly into the cabinet carcasses.
Always check the feet for leveling, including after applying any load later on.

One more detail: When installing the countertop, it is worth investing in durable mounting screws designed for wood panels. These provide better hold than standard through screws.

For electrical connections, always ensure outlets and cables remain easily accessible – carefully plan the connections in advance. Safety takes priority over speed.
