Good morning everyone, I am currently preparing to install my Ikea Metod kitchen, and I have some uncertainties specifically regarding the countertop installation that I would like to clarify. What installation tips can you recommend to ensure the countertop is securely fitted, stable, and gap-free? I am especially interested in how to best connect countertops at corners and transitions, and which fastening methods have proven reliable over time. I would also appreciate any advice on preferred screws, spacers, or padding materials, as well as any tricks for attaching brackets. Thank you in advance!

I’m also interested: Is there a recommended distance for screws under the countertop from the sidewalls of the base cabinets?

This is a very important question! Generally, I recommend a distance of at least 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4 inches) from the edges. This is because the torque from screws near the edge can easily cause tear-out, especially with the usually thin particleboard. If you drill too close to the edge, you risk the board splitting or the bracket not seating properly. Additionally, a larger distance makes adjustment easier if the cabinets vary slightly in width. I also suggest pre-drilling with a thin drill bit before driving the screws to protect the wood and achieve a clean result. Hope this helps!

The screws should be spaced at least 8 cm (3 inches) apart. However, do not tighten them too loosely, otherwise the panel will wobble later. Always attach the brackets loosely first, then tighten them securely. I also use small washers to prevent pressure marks.
