Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA KALLAX shelf: over time, some of the shelves have been damaged, especially the screws that hold the shelves in place. Some of these screws are worn out or damaged. Now I am looking for suitable replacement screws because I would prefer not to replace the entire shelf board.
My question to the community: Where do you buy suitable replacement screws for damaged KALLAX shelves? I mean screws that match exactly in size, thread, and length, and are strong enough to support the weight long-term.
So far, I have contacted IKEA, but they often recommend screw replacement kits that are more expensive than new shelves. Therefore, I am looking for a reliable alternative—whether a hardware store, online shop, or specialized screw supplier.
I would really appreciate your experiences and tips!

It's great that there are so many useful tips here! 🙂
I bought my KALLAX screws from an online specialist. They also offered advice via chat, which really helped me find the right size.
If you don't want to go directly to the manufacturer, try "Möbelbeschlag24" or "Schrauben-Riese.de". I have often found suitable solutions for furniture parts there!
Good luck with the repairs—it's really enjoyable to get old furniture back in shape!

I always ordered replacement screws for KALLAX directly from IKEA. For me, that is also the easiest way if it’s not too many screws. Otherwise, it’s worth sourcing them yourself from a hardware store or online.

zarHenning3 Jan 2022 17:33I recently bought suitable screws from a local hardware store. These are often of higher quality than the originals, especially if they are stainless steel variants. Important: carefully check the thread pitch and head type.
