Hello everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my Pax wardrobe with mirror glass doors and wanted to ask about your experiences: How durable are the mirror glass doors in everyday use? Are there common issues with scratches, breakage, or installation? How does this affect maintenance, especially compared to regular laminate doors? And most importantly: how does the mirror glass handle fingerprints and cleaning? I want to avoid the surface looking constantly dirty or being too sensitive. If anyone also has tips for installation or suitable accessories, please share. Looking forward to your input, as this is quite a significant investment. Thanks in advance!

Good introduction to the topic, I can relate to that well! Regarding the Pax wardrobe doors made of mirror glass, there are a few points I can share based on my own experience and longer use:

- Installation: It is important to work precisely, as the doors are relatively delicate due to their weight and glass surface. The hinges must be mounted accurately; otherwise, the frame can easily appear warped or later rub against the frame.

- Durability: The mirror glass from IKEA is standard tempered, which greatly reduces the risk of breakage during normal use. However, improper impacts or constant leaning on the surface can be problematic. Scratches mainly occur from sharp or sandy materials, so be careful when cleaning.

- Fingerprints: Unfortunately, they are very noticeable, especially if the room is not well lit. I use a microfiber cloth with alcohol-free glass cleaner as a standard for daily wiping, to avoid damaging the mirror.

It’s worth choosing door magnets or soft-close fittings so that the doors close gently without slamming or needing adjustments later.

I’m also curious about your room conditions: is it rather humid, warm, or dusty? Especially moisture can sometimes affect the glass edges if the sealing is not fully tight.

Maybe you can share more about that!

I am using Pax mirrored doors and can only say the following: Installation is basically straightforward with standard handyman tools. You will never completely avoid fingerprints, just wipe them regularly with a damp cloth. Scratches are hardly noticeable unless you scrape with hard objects. Overall, sturdy and stylish.

Of course, that’s the classic reassurance. The fact is: mirror glass has become standard in many modern furniture pieces because it looks elegant, no doubt about that. But anyone who thinks it’s scratch-resistant or requires little maintenance should take off their rose-colored glasses. Fingerprints are always visible, and especially the pathways in front of the wardrobe quickly turn into a smudge zone.

That’s correct, but tempered does not mean unbreakable. I had the misfortune that when a door got stuck while sliding, the glass chipped at the corner – quite a hassle with repairs and replacement. So you just have to be careful during installation and everyday use.

Mirror glass does look great, but whether it’s really worth the extra cost is another question. For people with children or heavy use, I would say it’s less recommended.
