Hello everyone, I have the following problem.
A few years ago, my terrace was built.
At that time, about 11sqm (118 sq ft) of coarse gravel had to be filled in. After nearly half a day of compacting, a concrete slab about 20cm (8 inches) thick was poured on top. On top of that came crushed stone, and then the actual terrace paving slabs were laid.
My problem is that around this terrace, a brick wall about 1 meter (3.3 feet) high was built to serve as a boundary.
Now, after about 10 years, I have noticed that this wall is very, very damp—at least in the corner where the slope leads. The biggest issue is that in this exact corner, the support beams of my pergola rest on this damp wall.
It may be worth mentioning that half of the terrace is covered and the other half is open. All the rainwater falls onto the open part and cannot drain properly. Fortunately, the house wall is dry because the slope goes in the opposite direction.
So far, the entire terrace has no drainage, and before I start working on it, I wanted to ask for your advice and tips to make sure everything is done correctly this time.
How can I permanently waterproof the 1-meter (3.3 feet) high walls around the terrace, or how can I protect them from moisture in the long term?
Thank you very much in advance for your suggestions.
