Hello everyone!

Our venetian blinds and roller shutters are operated conventionally with a switch.

Now I thought it would be nice to be able to operate some of the venetian blinds and roller shutters ADDITIONALLY by remote control.

Is there a way to retrofit this?

The switch should remain and continue to function normally...

Yes, for example, Eltako wireless shutter actuators. These are installed behind the switch, provided there is enough space in the wall box. Approximately 50€ per unit.

Otherwise, there are also many options in the Chinese budget smart home segment, like Shellys and similar devices. These operate via Wi-Fi. You will also need a server for remote control through an app.

There will be more examples to come. KNX-RF could also be an option.

Take a look at the 2.5 version Shellys. They cost about 20 euros each and usually fit easily behind a switch (if it’s installed in a deep flush-mounted box).
I have installed these actuators on all the roller shutters in the house and can now conveniently control them via an app. They have been running very reliably for months. The Shellys natively offer the option to perform timed actions (for example, open or close based on sunrise, etc.) or to link all devices in a room, floor, or the entire house together in groups.

What you do need near the switches, however, is an L (live), N (neutral), and, of course, Wi-Fi reception...

Wi-Fi reception would definitely be available.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure about the live and neutral wires. The roller shutter switches are installed individually, not in a triple frame or anything like that. Are live and neutral typically included there? I have no knowledge of electrical work!

There are ones from Jarolift that come with radio control and a remote control. The switch is simply replaced.

Just remove one switch and check what cables are there... it’s quick to verify. Then you can decide how to proceed. But make sure to turn off the circuit breaker for the room first.

I can’t say if that’s standard. If you don’t know anything about electrical work, it’s better to stay away.
