Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a new IKEA Metod kitchen system and am preparing to assemble it. I have noticed that the assembly instructions for Metod can be quite complex and sometimes a bit unclear, especially regarding the connecting hardware and the correct alignment of the cabinets.
I’m interested in any tips you might have on how to best understand the instructions and which common mistakes to avoid during assembly. Are there specific steps or tricks that can help save time and prevent damage to the components?
I would appreciate detailed advice, preferably based on your own experience – thanks in advance!

For technical precision during the assembly of IKEA Metod cabinets, please note the following:
- Before starting the installation, all assembly materials should be checked against the plan to avoid missing parts.
- The alignment and levelness of the cabinet locations are essential. Even a slight angle deviation can cause clearly visible issues later with front panel installation and countertop fitting.
- When handling the connectors, ensure that the cam locks are properly engaged to guarantee stability.
- Screws should be tightened with a torque that is gentle on wood-based materials to preserve their structural integrity.
These factors significantly increase the kitchen’s durability and visual quality.

The alignment and flatness of the cabinet installation sites is crucial. Even a slight angular deviation can cause clearly visible problems later when fitting the fronts and adjusting the countertops.I fully agree with that. Additionally, when initially positioning the cabinet carcasses, it is important to pay attention to the floor: any unevenness should be compensated using shims or washers.
In my experience, it also helps to check the installation with a straight edge or a long spirit level before attaching the fronts. This saves a lot of frustration.
Thank you all for the very helpful tips!
I will make sure to screw in the screws loosely at first and check the alignment multiple times with a spirit level. The advice on avoiding over-tightening the chipboard screws is also very useful.
I have one more question: Are there common issues with Metod hinges when installing them for the first time? I want to avoid the doors not closing properly or sticking later on.
Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.
