Hello dear forum,

I am new here and have a question for you! We are currently building a house and the foundation slab is already in place.

Our land has a slight slope, so there is an earth wall on one side of the property. Of course, there will be a retaining wall built there later. But now I am worried because some soil is breaking away. Is this normal? The wall is about 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) high and 15 meters (49 feet) wide.

Is it possible to build such a wall yourself, or is it better to hire a professional? It is not a retaining wall.

Best regards,
Silent802

What concerns you? I don’t see anything dangerous.

That more and more is breaking off when it rains. We originally planned to build the wall in 2020. The house will be built first, and then the wall.

So, does everything look okay to you? Should I not worry that more damage will keep occurring?

Bis2020 is too long. It’s fine for the construction phase. Otherwise, get cheap concrete planter rings at a hardware store like Obi or similar and stabilize the slope with them. See picture.

Of course, the "wall" will continue to crumble until the slope angle becomes so gentle that no more soil slides down. Be prepared for a lot of soil—it’s normal (even though it will be really frustrating, and in the end, it will probably cost a lot to restore everything to normal).

What are you planning to use as support against this? Retaining blocks (L-shaped blocks)?

L-shaped stones just don’t look very nice. We wanted concrete blocks, natural stones, or gabions.

We don’t have an idea yet of what it costs approximately. We need to get some quotes.

Any recommendations? 🙂
