Hello everyone,
I am currently working on building my terrace. It will be a solid structure, similar to an open conservatory. The terrace measures 5 x 5.50 m (16.4 x 18 ft), and a rustic stone wall has been or will be built around it. On top of this stone wall (height 60 cm (24 inches)), a timber frame will be constructed, with the side exposed to the weather being filled in with aerated concrete blocks, and two windows will be installed there. The other two sides (north and east) will remain open. The south side is the house wall with a terrace door. This means my terrace faces north, which I find very comfortable so far.
My only concern is the weather and the potential for moss growth on the structure and the roof covering. Because of these factors, I am having a hard time deciding on the roofing material. There are many options (clay shingles, asphalt shingles, roof tiles similar to those used on the house, or perhaps a roof that lets in more light, such as glass or plastic panels...).
Has anyone experienced a similar situation and can offer some advice?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Best regards

Also consider the rooms behind it. The less light the roof lets through, the darker the room behind the terrace will be.
We had been considering a roof with aluminum and glass, along with appropriate shading options. However, due to the cost, we have postponed this for now and will test the terrace without a roof for at least one year.
