Hello everyone,

I am currently planning our new, unfortunately very small (2.18 x 2.48 m (7.15 x 8.14 ft)) kitchen. Since every centimeter of storage counts, I hope you can help me with these questions:

1) Toe kick drawers: these drawers are designed for a 16 cm (6.3 inch) toe kick. Is it possible to modify them for a 21 cm (8.3 inch) toe kick?

2) Corner cabinet 90 x 90 cm (35.4 x 35.4 inch): is it possible to install a Magic Corner or a similar non-IKEA product that uses the storage space more efficiently than the lazy Susan? Unfortunately, there are no pull-outs available for the 90 x 90 cabinet.

3) Sink/waste separation: due to space limitations, we can only choose a 50 cm (19.7 inch) sink base cabinet. However, I really like the cabinets with waste pull-outs. Is there a way to convert the 50 cm cabinet to have a pull-out, or to shorten the 60 cm (23.6 inch) cabinet?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Hello everyone,

I am currently planning our new, unfortunately very small (2.18 x 2.48 meters (7.2 x 8.1 feet)) kitchen. Since every centimeter of storage space counts, I hope you can help me with these questions:

1) Toe kick drawers: these drawers are designed for a 16 cm (6.3 inches) toe kick, is it possible to convert them to fit a 21 cm (8.3 inches) toe kick?

Yes, but then you can’t use the aluminum panel; you would simply use a piece of the toe kick panel instead.
2) Corner cabinet 90 x 90 cm (35.4 x 35.4 inches): is it possible to install a Magic Corner or a similar non-Ikea product that optimizes storage better than the typical lazy Susan? Unfortunately, there are no pull-outs available for the 90 x 90 cm (35.4 x 35.4 inches) cabinet.

A Magic Corner is not practical or possible in such a cabinet. Pull-outs only make sense in a straight corner base cabinet.
3) Sink/Trash separation: due to space constraints, we can only choose a 50 cm (19.7 inches) wide sink cabinet. However, I like the cabinets with trash pull-outs very much. Is it possible to convert the 50 cm (19.7 inches) cabinet to have a pull-out system, or to shorten a 60 cm (23.6 inches) cabinet?

In general, pull-outs can only be adjusted in width, not in depth, but with some DIY effort this is possible. I can provide more details if needed.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hello IKEA expert,

thank you very much for the quick response.
Building it ourselves should not be a problem for my boyfriend. Could you provide me with some more information about it?
Since we will have to re-route the connections for the sink anyway, we can make sure that they don’t take up too much space.
I’m looking forward to it – now nothing stands in the way of the beautiful new kitchen 🙂

Best regards

Nina

Hello,

there are different ways to get a 50 cm (20 inches) wide but only 40 cm (16 inches) deep drawer.

1. You buy a standard 50 cm (20 inches) wide and a 60 cm (24 inches) wide drawer with 40 cm (16 inches) depth. From the 50 cm drawer, you shorten the bottom panel and use the sides of the 60 cm drawer. For the 60 cm drawer, you get a specially cut panel from a timber yard and mill two grooves into the bottom. Or you buy it ready-made from a carpenter. This should not be too expensive.

2. You take the 60 cm drawer with 40 cm depth, make the bottom panel narrower, and mill a new groove on one side. Then you also need a matching back panel.
a) The drawer was bought in Germany: from the wide back panel sheet, you cut out a piece and connect the two parts, for example with a piece that was cut out, using rivets.
b) The drawer was bought in Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, or France:
i) Same as a)
ii) You buy a pair of back panel supports from Blum and insert a wooden back panel.

3. You buy all the necessary parts for a Blum Tandembox plus and build the drawer completely yourself. Other manufacturers can of course be used as well.
