I am currently planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and wondering how to set it up as ergonomically as possible. My focus is not only on the classic kitchen work triangle between the stove, sink, and refrigerator, but especially on the correct height of the countertops, the optimal layout of the cabinets, and practical interior fittings that facilitate workflow and help prevent back pain. What recommendations are there specifically for the Metod modules to ensure comfortable and efficient work while cooking and washing up? I am also interested in whether it makes more sense to choose taller wall cabinets or to install more base cabinets with pull-out drawers. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Do you think it makes sense to plan for more space around the sink and the adjacent countertop than around the stove?

Yes, absolutely. In the Metod kitchen system, it is very beneficial to plan a spacious and well-lit work surface next to the sink, especially if a lot of washing and food preparation takes place. A wide base cabinet with drawers under this area provides storage for cutting boards, knives, and kitchen tools.

At the same time, the stove should not be too constrained. Usually, a smaller countertop area on either side is sufficient since most of the cooking preparation happens at the clean, prepared workspace.

Tip: Metod also offers corner solutions with carousel drawers to optimize the use of space.

Great topic, HAUBE4! 😊 I planned a Metod kitchen myself and can only say: having more counter space near the sink really makes food prep more enjoyable! Especially if you install a trash bin insert in the base cabinet nearby. It saves a lot of walking back and forth and keeps the kitchen tidy.

As for the wall cabinets: it’s better not to install them too high, otherwise you’ll lose the motivation to reach up all the time. It’s preferable to have some shelves or small cabinets that are easy to reach.

All in all, ergonomic design also means enjoying cooking and cleaning up!

I would like to add that the flexible interior fittings of the Metod kitchen are a great advantage. For example, you can integrate cutlery trays, plate holders, and pot clips into drawers to organize the storage space efficiently.

Regarding heights: if the kitchen is used by multiple people, it is advisable to choose an average countertop height that suits everyone reasonably well, or to incorporate different height zones within a single run.

Additionally, good lighting above the work surface is important; otherwise, you can quickly feel uncomfortable and strained while working.

Hey everyone! Great to see so many people actively joining the discussion. For me, the flexibility of the Ikea Metod system is the highlight. I’ve set up my kitchen so that I store a lot in drawers, which makes almost everything easily accessible with just one pull – super ergonomic!

Also, placing the waste sorting unit right next to the sink makes everyday life so much easier.

Your tip about not installing upper cabinets too high is spot on – it’s really hard to reach them if they’re mounted too high!

In summary:
- Adjust countertop height to the user
- Prefer base cabinets with pull-out drawers
- Wall cabinets should be low enough and not too deep
- Tailor work zones to actual usage

These are the key points for the ergonomic planning of the Ikea Metod kitchen.
