Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of how to best optimize the limited storage space in my rather compact Ikea Metod kitchen. The kitchen is not very large but is sufficient if the available storage space is used smartly. I am especially interested in tips and tricks on how to create more space through practical interior fittings, pull-outs, organizers, or clever arrangements of wall cabinets and base cabinets, so that kitchen utensils and food items are well stored yet easily accessible. Solutions for frequently used items are also important to me, so that the workflow in the kitchen is not disrupted. Perhaps you have experience with specific Ikea system accessories or custom modifications that really increase storage capacity? I look forward to your suggestions!

Make sure to fully utilize the available space in the base cabinets with pull-out shelves and drawer inserts. The Metod series is very flexible in this regard, so opt for pull-outs rather than fixed shelves. Wall cabinets should be used up to the ceiling.

Hello Kau64, your question is well thought out, and the use of well-planned interior fittings is indeed crucial. One recommendation is to install wide pull-out drawers in the base cabinets, which utilize the entire volume and prevent any corner from being wasted. Additionally, I suggest using LeMans pull-outs or carousel units in corner cabinets to improve access, which is otherwise more difficult. For wall cabinets, small dishes or storage containers can be neatly organized using small stacking boxes. It is also important to place frequently used items at the bottom or front so they can be reached quickly. Ikea offers a wide range of suitable inserts that can be combined modularly.

I think it’s worth considering whether the kitchen could be designed differently overall to gain more storage space. Sometimes having fewer cabinets but more efficient solutions, like tall cabinets with pull-out units, can help. Your question focuses on optimization, but it’s also worthwhile to critically review the entire layout to see if better use of space could provide additional storage. At the same time, accessibility should be taken into account—more storage is not always better if it compromises usability.

Hey Kau64, your question is great—I like when people consider not just the square meters but also the workflow. Without a magic kitchen wand, it’s hardly enjoyable 😉. Try combining open shelves with baskets—it looks casual and keeps things within easy reach. At Ikea, there are those multi-level interior drawers where you can basically stack items vertically. I would only recommend placing wall cabinets at the top for things you rarely use; otherwise, you’ll constantly be on your tiptoes.

Hello! I also like the Metod kitchen, but in small kitchens, the storage space can be really tricky. What I find great are narrow pull-out pantry cabinets – they fit spices, oils, and similar items and hide away inside the cabinet. The drawer lighting is also worth considering – it helps you keep track, even when everything is packed full 😉.
