Hello everyone,

As part of renovation work, I would prefer to keep an existing staircase. Unfortunately, we don’t like its appearance. Do you have any ideas on how to refresh a staircase like this? A new handrail is obvious.
Is it possible to coat or paint engineered stone concrete? Looking forward to your suggestions!
Best regards

I would keep the steps as they are and focus on the railing and the wall color.

I think the staircase and railing have a certain appeal and complement each other well. I would keep them.

I like the dark wall color as a contrast, and especially the adjoining floors need to be replaced for a modern look. That way, the staircase really stands out.

What do you think about microcement? Beton Ciré and similar materials.
It looks really great online. The question is whether it is flexible enough. Apparently, it adheres well to tiles, so it should also hold on these steps.

The steps made of concrete composite hardly warp. A coating can tolerate this slight movement. Proper preparation is essential. Sand and remove old sealants.

As I understand it, Beton Ciré is more suitable for horizontal surfaces.

When choosing a coating, pay attention to the desired surface roughness and abrasion resistance.

You might want to ask a trusted painter how they would professionally coat the steps.

As mentioned, painting the walls is probably nicer and more cost-effective.
