Hello everyone, I have assembled a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system, and I’m having trouble aligning the doors so that they fit perfectly. The doors are hung, but on closer inspection, they often aren’t completely straight, or the gap between the doors and the cabinets varies. My question is: How can I properly align and adjust the Ikea Metod doors to achieve the best possible fit? I have already found the adjustment options on the hinges, but it’s not entirely clear in which order to proceed or what details to pay special attention to so that all doors close flush without bulges or misalignment. Does anyone have a step-by-step guide or tips on which tools and techniques work best for this? Thanks in advance!

You should first adjust the height of the doors, then set the depth, and finally make the lateral alignment. The Metod hinges have three adjustment screws: the height adjustment is located at the top of the hinge, the depth on the side, and the horizontal alignment at the front. You only need a Phillips screwdriver for this. It is important to adjust the doors one after another to ensure the gaps are even.

Hello, I’d like to add a few details, as aligning Ikea Metod doors can actually be a bit tricky when you’re aiming for a perfect fit.

First of all, it’s helpful to know that each Metod hinge has three important adjustment options: The height adjustment cam, usually a screw located on the upper hinge bracket — this is used to align the door vertically and adjust its height. The depth adjustment, found on the side of the hinge, ensures the door sits flush with the cabinet frame or slightly protrudes. Lastly, the lateral adjustment — this screw shifts the door horizontally left or right.

My practical recommendation for the sequence is as follows:
- Level the door using the height adjustment so that the hinges sit properly and the door doesn’t hang crooked.
- Then adjust the side so that the gaps between doors or to the frame are even.
- Finally, set the depth so that the doors close evenly and flush without rubbing.

An important tip: If you have multiple doors side by side, first align one door as perfectly as possible and then use it as a reference to adjust the adjacent doors. Especially at joints, even minor deviations become noticeable.

Use a well-lit workspace and a small feeler gauge if you have one to check gap widths. Sometimes having a second person open and close the doors helps to assess the effect of your adjustments.

Additionally, check whether the mounting plates are properly seated on the cabinet since a crooked plate can make adjustments more difficult.

Regarding tools, a good-quality Phillips screwdriver is sufficient, as Kukar mentioned, but be careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid damage.

If you still have trouble, it would be helpful to know whether your doors are left- or right-hinged and whether you have soft-close hinges or the standard version, as this can make a slight difference when adjusting.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Exactly! You can definitely do it! 😊 I also had some issues with the Metod doors in the beginning, but with patience and the right approach, it works out! It’s best to take your time and adjust everything step by step without losing patience. Remember: turn each screw just a little at a time and keep checking. It’s really satisfying when the doors end up perfectly aligned! Good luck, and feel free to share how it went!
