Hello,
we want to cover our interior walls with Fermacell boards. What is the best tool for cutting the boards (circular saw, jigsaw)? What is the best way to fasten the boards (screws or nails)?

Regards

Hello,

I cut the panels using a circular saw with an old saw blade. I fastened the panels with screws.

Hello,
I’m revisiting the question.
How did you connect the panels to each other?
Did you install the panels simply without gluing or filling the joints (I don’t mean filling the joints or using screws)? What experiences have you had with panels installed this way?

Ansgar

Hello!

Insufficient answers often indicate that the question is unclear.

What exactly are you planning? Do you want to refurbish existing walls – for example, in an older building? What is the substrate like? Why choose gypsum fiberboards (Fermacell) instead of gypsum plasterboard?

Or do you want to construct interior walls with a lightweight frame? Which type of stud frame – wood or aluminum?

I’m a big fan of Fermacell, but working with it can be unpleasant due to the dust it generates!

Usually, walls with a stud frame are built as fischaqua described. I would attach gypsum plasterboard directly to existing masonry.

Best regards,
TomTom.

The boards were delivered to our house by the builder.
We have a wooden stud frame.

Hello!

So, back then we
- screwed the panels to the substructure. However, self-drilling screws are not necessary for wood
- filled the joint with Fermacell gypsum compound (no idea if it contains additives)
- sealed the Fermacell-to-Fermacell joints in the ceiling area with acrylic sealant
- sealed the connections to the masonry with silicone.

Today, I would
- consider using reinforcing tape (some panel joints are still visible)
- seal all connection joints between ceilings and walls with silicone (which is now apparently also paintable).

Best regards,
TomTom1
