Hello,

Attached is an excerpt from my kitchen plan. From left to right: patio door, fridge/freezer, cabinet. My question to you: Are the connections for the refrigerator (power and water) usually installed behind the fridge or, as the kitchen planner recommends, behind the cabinet?

His argument: this allows the refrigerator to be placed closer to the wall.

My thought: this way, the ugly water hose and cable would be visible between the cabinet and the fridge (without knowing exactly how many centimeters (inches) this gap actually is).

Second question: How far would the refrigerator need to be pulled away from the wall if the connections were behind the fridge?

Thank you!

If this is a side-by-side refrigerator with a water connection, you should check the installation manual for the refrigerator. A water connection at the back of the unit usually requires much more space from the wall.

The unit could also be positioned closer to the base cabinets, with a distance of about 5 cm (2 inches). However, this should also be confirmed in the refrigerator’s installation manual.

Thank you for the reply! Yes, it will be a side-by-side refrigerator. However, everything is still in the planning stage (kitchen and refrigerator – probably Liebherr). Therefore, I do not have an installation manual yet.

Is it possible to give an approximate value?

Just take a look at the manuals of a few refrigerators. Otherwise, a faucet has to be installed there anyway, so you can allow about 10cm (5 inches). Counterproductive.

Remember that you will need to access the valve repeatedly, for example, to change the filter.
