ᐅ Poor Wi-Fi in a Newly Built Home Despite Fiber Optic Connection

Hello. Today, after 6 months, we finally got internet in our new build. I set up the fiber optic connection on the FritzBox 7590 router. For that, I reset the router to factory settings and configured it according to the fiber installation guide. Then I updated it to the latest version. Somehow, the Wi-Fi isn’t as fast as expected. What could be the reason? The router is located in the utility room (ground floor corner) on a cabinet. Our living room is in the opposite corner on the ground floor. There, we have 3 out of 4 bars, sometimes even less. The speed is not particularly good either.

In the upstairs bathroom (directly above the utility room), the connection is practically non-existent. If I go to the upstairs hallway, I get 3 bars. Shouldn’t the signal actually be stronger throughout, even without a repeater?

The fiber modem and the FritzBox are connected by an Ethernet cable I already had. Should this cable be upgraded? Are there any other tips?

The switch for the LAN outlets isn’t connected yet. I still need to order it and install the wiring.

This is not a fiber optic issue (what kind of contract do you have?), but purely a Wi-Fi matter. The problem could be the FRITZ!Box itself or its placement.

We also have the 7590 and no reception directly on the 1st floor. The concrete ceilings, steel, and underfloor heating do not help the Wi-Fi signal.

Therefore, access points should ideally be planned at critical locations in the house during new construction.

Which telecom plan have you actually subscribed to?

These are the details from the FritzBox.

Internet Connection
IPv4: connected since 20.11.2020, 14:57, Telekom, internet access speed (available bitrate): ↓61.8 Mbit/s ↑12.4 Mbit/s
IPv6: connected since 20.11.2020, 14:57, Telekom, internet access speed (available bitrate): ↓61.8 Mbit/s ↑12.4 Mbit/s
Test internet connection speed?

I’ll test tomorrow what arrives and try switching the phones from the 2.4 GHz band to the 5 GHz band today. That should improve things, right?

If these are definitely the main data of the Fritzbox for your connection and you have fiber optic with a DL 250+ plan, then it’s definitely not a Wi-Fi issue.
That doesn’t rule out that you might still have one. Depending on conditions—walls, refrigerators, mirrors, plants—you can experience significant signal loss over just 2 meters (6.5 feet).

So if you want a quick solution, turn off the Wi-Fi on the Fritzbox and use a Xiaomi ac2100 router configured as a Wi-Fi router. This device has a really strong transmission power and offers around 2000 Mbps.

The FB synchronizes at 60 Mbps according to the last post. What does Wi-Fi have to do with that?

Because he writes WLAN.

Or do you know what kind of contract he has? Maybe he only has a 60 Mbps (60 megabits per second) contract.
