We have a solid wood staircase in dark wood going from the ground floor to the first floor. We now want to renovate the staircase without investing thousands of euros right away.
I read somewhere that there are so-called "panel" floors that can be used to cover the existing stairs. Is that possible? Or should we simply sand them down and paint? Are there paints that can make them look like beech wood? So light and friendly? I don’t want to just paint them white.
THANK YOU

does the staircase have risers, meaning is it open at the back or closed?

Andreas Euler25 Jan 2010 07:41Hello,
this staircase can be covered by a professional with laminate flooring or, even better, with prefinished hardwood flooring. For the treads, there are aluminum profiles available in various colors for the edge finish. The risers can also be covered with hardwood flooring or laminate, and the junctions to the stringers can be sealed with a flexible sealant.
Regards, Andreas

Andreas Euler25 Jan 2010 11:50Hello Patrik,
what’s the right approach? You can have it done cheaply, but then it will be poor quality and you won’t enjoy it. Or you invest a reasonable amount, and you will be able to enjoy a beautiful staircase for 30 years or more.
“Being cheap is cool” does not apply to good craftsmanship!
