House 110 sqm (1184 sq ft), bungalow. So, one level. Drywall ceiling, plastered walls; in the bathrooms lime-cement plaster, elsewhere gypsum plaster with lime content. Painting work includes filling, sanding, painter’s fleece, primer, and lightly tinted or white emulsion paint. In the bathrooms, fiberglass mesh over tiles on the walls, painted white with latex paint. Eaves painted with brackets. Quote 3800 gross. Is this ok?

No. Why? All the products listed are regularly used by professional painters on walls.
By the way, all those mentioned come from the same paint manufacturer to achieve a white wall, just from different price/quality ranges.

So a painter can definitely influence their offer by choosing the cheaper bucket.

For example, it could also be the store brand of their wholesaler for 25€ (about $27) per bucket. If they know their brush can make the walls white with it. Such paint is often loaded by the pallet into painters’ vans.

What I want to say is that it’s hard to judge from a distance whether 3.8 is a good price. And comparing alternative painters is also not straightforward if you only look at the final price.

Since it’s hardly about saving €50 per bucket, stick with 3.8 and round up to 4 if you’re satisfied with his work :P

Best regards in brief

I don’t understand. @Nordlys isn’t planning to paint student rooms, but his entire bungalow (just referring to the interior work here).

Roughly estimated, 110 sqm (1,184 sq ft) of living space corresponds to about 550 sqm (5,920 sq ft) of wall and ceiling surfaces. That comes to about 92 liters (97 quarts) of paint. So that’s 7-8 buckets of 12.5 liters (13.2 quarts) each.

And at that amount, it definitely makes a difference whether the paint costs 200€, 480€, 630€ (Indeko plus), or the very expensive one at 984€ in the offer.

It’s not like a painter doesn’t need materials...

That has nothing to do with whether it’s a “legitimate company” or not.
It depends on what kind of paint he has priced in for you and whether you have set any quality standards at all. After all, he could also use €5 paint from Poco to increase his profit margin.

In the first semester, business administration students learn: Profit lies in purchasing.

I believe I once read that material costs for painters are around 40%.
As others have already mentioned, you might want to clarify with your painter which paint they plan to use and get a comparative quote from another painter.
You don’t have to tell your painter that you definitely want to hire them. If the competitor is cheaper (with comparable paint quality!), you can still go back to your preferred tradesperson and try to negotiate a discount.
