ᐅ My KALLAX unit tips forward on a carpet threshold – what is a lasting way to stabilize it?

Hello everyone, I currently have a problem with my KALLAX shelf from IKEA. It stands on a carpeted floor, where there is a slight threshold (a small edge caused by the carpet transition) at the spot where the shelf is placed. Because of this, the shelf slightly tilts and is not stable. My question is: How can I find a sustainable and long-lasting solution to level the KALLAX unit on an even surface without much effort or permanently using screws or metal? I don’t want any visible or impractical fixes, but something that is either discreet or can be well integrated. Are there any eco-friendly materials or clever ideas to compensate for the slight height difference? Thanks for your advice!

I would like to add that when using Kallax shelves, it is especially important to consider the type of flooring and the exact position of the threshold. If the threshold is flexible (like many carpet transitions), the material may give way, causing a rigid wedge solution to potentially slip over time.

One idea would be not only to level the area under the feet but also to dampen any rocking motion. Cork panels, slightly thinned at the threshold, combined with wedge-shaped supports could provide a very effective solution. Unlike plastic or metal, cork is a renewable resource and environmentally friendly.

In conclusion: also consider securing the shelf to the wall (e.g., with brackets) to completely eliminate the risk of tipping.

Cut wooden wedges from leftover wood, sand them to size, and place them under the affected spot.

That is indeed a quick and practical approach.

I would just add: If you move the shelf frequently, you should make sure the wedges do not slip. One solution can be to place a thin layer of rubber or cork tape under the wedges before positioning them. This provides better grip without using permanent adhesives.

Have you considered fitting adjustable furniture spiral feet to the KALLAX legs? They are available in wood or metal with plastic end caps. This allows precise leveling of height differences. It’s a small investment but also very sustainable since they can be reused.
