ᐅ Are there adjustable wall brackets for the KALLAX that allow mounting above radiators?

Hello everyone,
I have a specific question regarding the installation of my KALLAX shelf from IKEA. Due to the spatial conditions, I want to mount the shelf directly above a radiator on the wall. Unfortunately, this is not that simple, as the standard wall brackets are often rigid and sometimes either not tall enough or too deep.
My question: Are there flexible wall brackets or special mounting materials for the KALLAX that allow installation above radiators, providing enough clearance and adjustable fitting? I am looking for something like a spacer or an adjustable wall bracket that enables safe, stable shelf mounting above the radiator without direct contact.
I would appreciate any tips, recommendations, or even personal experiences with such solutions. Thank you!

Are there any brackets that can be adjusted in depth? In principle, yes. So-called telescopic wall brackets can be adjusted in depth, but these are usually intended for shelves with thinner boards. The KALLAX shelf requires solid supports, so I would advise against relying solely on narrow brackets.
If you have access to a workshop, another option could be a wooden or metal plate mounted on the wall, with the KALLAX placed on top. This plate can provide the necessary depth by using spacer screws.
Another possibility is galvanized L-brackets with glued-in spacers that can be adjusted in depth. Important: the adjustment must ensure that the shelf does not come into contact with the radiator, as heat is transferred through steel brackets.
Would you like me to share manufacturers or sources for such adjustable brackets?

Should I give you some manufacturers or suppliers for those adjustable brackets?Yes, please! Sources and manufacturers for flexible brackets that I can easily order online would be great. I need something with clear dimensions and good load capacity. Thanks!
Hello Kaan38,
I solved similar situations at my home. I used adjustable wall brackets from a hardware store and placed simple hardwood blocks underneath as spacers. I covered the screw heads with paint matching the color, so they are barely noticeable.
It is important to measure the depth precisely beforehand and to use an appropriate anchor system for the wall, depending on the wall material. This setup is very stable, even with heavy loads.
If needed, you can leave a small gap to allow good air circulation and prevent heat buildup.

Hello everyone,
I find this topic really interesting because it presents similar challenges for many people.
Kaan38, I completely understand how frustrating it is when you want to hang a simple IKEA shelf but then encounter what seems like an insurmountable obstacle due to the radiator.
From my experience with shelves, especially KALLAX, flexibility is truly key. If you can’t find suitable ready-made brackets, I wouldn’t hesitate to build something yourself.
For me personally, it’s also important that the shelf looks good and doesn’t feel out of place. I think the choice of spacer material is relevant too – wood gives a warm impression, plastic is lightweight, metal is strong but conducts heat.
Maybe it’s also worth considering insulation material between the radiator and the shelf if the gap isn’t large enough.

Hey Kaan38 and everyone else 😊
I find it really exciting how so many ideas are coming together here! Just regarding the radiator issue: I definitely wouldn’t seal it off completely, as that would create a damp environment for the shelf and the items stored there.
For the brackets, you could maybe use small adjustable ceiling hangers – I’ve seen something like that on other furniture mounted on uneven surfaces, allowing for easy adjustment.
If you’ve already considered spacers that act like a “bridge” between the wall and the shelf, that could also be a stylish solution.
And hey, a bit of DIY makes the whole thing much more personal – all without ugly screws! 😉
I’d be happy if we keep sharing ideas, maybe together we can create the perfect installation checklist!

I used flexible metal brackets (telescopic type) that can extend up to 20cm (8 inches). This allows the KALLAX shelf to fit perfectly above my radiator.
At the back, I placed small rubber pads in between to prevent the heat from transferring directly to the metal. It has been working reliably without any issues for months.
If you want, I can send you the source privately. 🙂
