Hello everyone,

I have a somewhat unusual problem with my IKEA KALLAX shelving unit: it stands in a sunny living room, right by the window, and is constantly leaning even though the floor is level. This is especially noticeable because the doors of the boxes don’t close properly, giving the impression that the shelf is warped or unstable. I’m wondering what might be causing this – perhaps the sunlight and a slight deformation due to heat?

Does anyone have tips or experience on how to easily and effectively level a KALLAX shelf that seems to be leaning slightly due to external factors? Are there clever ways to compensate for this without having to take the entire shelf apart?

I’d appreciate any advice, including ideas on how to prevent such deformations in the long term. Thanks in advance!

To be honest, does it always have to be a quick fix?

Sometimes it’s worth questioning the living situation instead of desperately holding on to a piece of furniture that clearly isn’t designed for those conditions. Maybe the KALLAX just doesn’t fit in that spot, and a sturdy solid wood alternative would be more resistant to heat and sunlight.

Why not choose more durable furniture right from the start instead of constantly propping up crooked areas?

To put it bluntly, why not just move the furniture out of the direct sunlight? Window location aside—if you live in a room where the furniture warps, to me that’s a warning sign of poor furniture placement.

Just a little provocation for thought.
