Good morning,

unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything using the forum search.

My question is, what should the minimum clearance for a door be when planning the floor plan?

Good luck

I think it also depends on the door frame chosen. There are definitely different dimensions regarding how far the wood extends outward.

That is a 6cm (2.4 inches) remaining width in the door opening (in the shell construction phase, so without the door frame yet)
Open door with handle, view into hallway with tiled floor and red carpet runner.

So my question is, what is the minimum [...] required distance that must be maintained.

Planning such minimum clearances would result in a house where the tightness feels like the “best possible” closeness. Doors pushed into corners reduce the experience of space even more significantly than just the physical space they consume. Do you really want to create a house that feels uncomfortable due to cramped conditions in every corner?
Exceeding minimum clearance by a certain amount is essential for a livable house. Rooms are more than just “closet compartments for residents.”

More than 90° is not necessary in our case, since there is immediately a wall behind.

Regardless of the distance to the following cabinet: to walk around it or pass by, you need additional clearance; otherwise, the walking path has to deviate.

We planned a gap of 12.5cm (5 inches), which works well. If necessary, about 6cm (2.5 inches) can also be used to save space.

I just measured in our apartment: 1 meter (3.3 feet) door width (including frame), door leaf 86 cm (34 inches), distance to the wall (drywall) 10 cm / 13 cm (4 inches / 5 inches). Opening angle > 90°

Doors pressed into corners always reduce the perceived space more intensely than the actual floor area consumed. In some cases, however, it is sometimes unavoidable (without having to make other compromises). I am familiar with this from our own plans. A hallway kept as small as possible leads to tight distances between two adjacent doors. Objectively, one must decide on

a) narrow wall clearance between doors, but generous door widths,
b) generous wall clearance between doors, but smaller door widths,
c) enlargement of the hallway at the expense of living space in three other rooms.

We ended up choosing option a). Therefore, I find the question interesting whether there are manufacturer-independent “standard” minimum clearances based on rough construction dimensions.
