Good morning,

unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything using the forum search.

My question is, what should the minimum clearance for a door be when planning the floor plan?

Good luck

For the rough opening, we should plan at least 15 cm (6 inches) to ensure the door frame fits even with minor deviations.

If it’s too tight, in my opinion, it doesn’t look good either. We usually left a clearance of 30-50 cm (12-20 inches). I also find it nicer when the door can open more than 90 degrees.

The door opening should be more than 90°. Ideally, it should be 10-15cm (4-6 inches), which I consider essential. Even better is at least 60cm (24 inches) so that a cabinet can fit behind it.

More than 90° is not necessary in our case, since the wall is immediately behind it. So the consensus is approximately 15cm (6 inches), right!?

Absolute minimum requirement: you want to be able to fully open the door. “Fully” in this context means slightly more than 90°, because when the door is open as far as possible, the door handle also needs to be clear of any obstruction. Therefore, behind the door there must be the door thickness plus twice the door handle projection plus a safety margin of 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8 inches) to account for trigonometric effects. This measurement is taken from the hinge side, not from the wall opening. The exact figures depend on the specific door and handle combination. In any case, this applies if you really need to calculate as tightly as the situation here suggests.

That also depends on the door system used. With or without a handle, with or without a visible frame.

I have worked with an opening angle of 100° before.

What should the distance to the opposite side be? Would that even be possible?

Door in a furniture planning app: Blue filling, opens 100°, dimensions 1000×2100 mm (39×83 inches).
