ᐅ Lighting in the Entryway and Kitchen: Are Recessed Ceiling Spotlights Necessary?

Hello,
we are currently planning the lighting for the hallway and kitchen.
The builder offered us recessed ceiling spotlights installed in the concrete ceiling, using GU10 sockets for bulbs up to 50W.
One spotlight would cost about €150 (approximately $160), so we would like to plan only as many as necessary.
The spotlights are already marked on the attached plan – however, I am concerned that it might be a bit too dark.
The kitchen island will be positioned further to the left and will align flush with the window and the kitchen unit.
There will be 6 x 2W LEDs installed under the wall cabinets, and there will also be lighting under the extractor hood.
In your opinion, would 5W LEDs in the GU10 sockets be sufficient?
Or should I skip the spotlights altogether and invest the €1500 (about $1600) into a nice track lighting system instead?
What do you think?

I don’t find the 150 € particularly expensive.
When I roughly calculate the approximate costs for a concrete box + hole from the precast concrete ceiling manufacturer + GU10 spotlight + wiring, depending on the type of concrete box and spotlight installed, I easily reach 150 €. An LED panel costs me 75 €.
Regarding the kitchen, I would also make sure not to cast a shadow on my workspace while working. So, a nice bright working light from slightly in front and a large light source in the center of the kitchen for the general lighting.

So here...just to show that I’m using the round ones...they are only about 22mm (0.87 inches) thick

Hello @Mycraft,
can the LED panels also be installed in ceiling recesses?
What diameter do your round LED panels have?
Are similar planning guidelines applicable as for spotlights, meaning about one-third of the clear ceiling height as distance from the wall and distances between the panels at most half of the clear ceiling height?
How much do these panels cost?
I have 20cm (8 inches) panels... three of them provide more than enough light for a 12sqm (129 sqft) stairwell.
It is sufficient to cut a properly sized opening in the ceiling and then simply fix the panel in place using clips, similar to standard recessed spotlights.
Planning requirements vary widely because each manufacturer uses different LEDs (number/color/light intensity), so you need to check the technical specifications to determine the correct positioning, or you can experiment.
The current price for mine is 55.50 euros each.
