ᐅ Three years since completion – still haven’t found a ceiling light for the kitchen!

We’re probably a bit crazy. We can’t find a ceiling light that both of us like for the kitchen. But all the options out there are just terrible. We definitely don’t want those damn LEDs. So that rules out 50% of the lights right away.
Then we need a lot of light, at least 3000 lumens. We both have poor eyesight. That cuts out another 30% because these days lights don’t seem to be meant for actual illumination anymore.
That leaves only 20% that we simply don’t like or that are too expensive (over 500€). It’s so frustrating. Does anyone know a lighting store that doesn’t just sell the usual generic stuff but offers something different?
Feel free to share pictures of the lights you have, if you want. Maybe we’ll like some of those too. 🙁

Knallkörper22 Feb 2017 23:32A track lighting system with halogen spotlights would be just right for you. A single lamp isn’t effective. Even with an output of 3000 lumens, it’s still dark in the shadows, and you will always have shadows while working.

Okay, actually, we still have the two coats of paint. :-DTimelessly elegant. 😀
I don’t understand why LEDs are categorically rejected. From my perspective, the lamps available nowadays are quite pleasant and generally very suitable.
In my kitchen, besides the three task lights (under the wall cabinets – of course with LED), there are two of those "hanging spotlights." With these, I can adequately illuminate the approximately 20 m² (215 sq ft) and hardly ever have shadows in the work area. Together, they provide nearly 4000 lumens. What I find interesting is that, despite searching extensively, I really only found these models from this manufacturer that combine linear, spotlight, and pendant lighting.
Since the light bulbs are replaceable, you can of course also use energy-saving or (if still available) halogen bulbs with GU10 sockets in them. At least at the time, they were also offered directly from the factory with compact fluorescent or halogen lamps.
Good luck
Good luck K1300S
Why not LEDs? Nowadays, they are available in any desired color temperature.
As most have already mentioned, I wouldn’t rely on just one light fixture but rather distribute several throughout the kitchen. We have several GU sockets where we installed LEDs. Energy-efficient, bright, and with the preferred color temperature.

meister keks23 Feb 2017 13:59I only have LEDs left in the house.
Whether they actually save energy, I’m not sure.
It would be nice if they at least last longer than incandescent bulbs since they are significantly more expensive.
Nowadays, LEDs are available in all kinds of light variants that can definitely come close to the light of the old incandescent bulb.

We now only have a few remaining halogen or energy-saving lamps that haven’t burned out yet. Everything newly purchased or to be purchased are LED bulbs.
The startup time of the energy-saving lamps was a bit annoying, but with LEDs, I no longer see any disadvantage compared to incandescent bulbs (except for the slightly higher price).
