Hello everyone,

Our double garage is currently in the shell construction phase. The flat roof will extend about 25cm (10 inches) beyond the exterior walls on two sides. Our architect mentioned that before the concrete slab is poured, I could install LED strips on this overhang.

I have now seen aluminum LED channels on eBay and Amazon, about 16-17mm (0.6-0.7 inches) wide with a matte or clear cover. Is there anything to consider regarding the concrete? Can these aluminum profiles be attached directly to the formwork without issues, or do the profiles need to meet special requirements because of the concrete? In addition, I plan to run a conduit pipe with a diameter of 30 or 35mm (1.2 or 1.4 inches) into the ends, which must be concrete-resistant.

Best regards

If you want to do it yourself, I would glue the LED strips into the aluminum profile and then pot them with LED resin. Or just buy "waterproof" ones right away... Are the profiles equipped with a diffused acrylic cover?

Thank you for the response. I don’t have the LED strips yet; I am only planning to buy the profiles and place them on the formwork before pouring the concrete.

Later, after the concrete has been poured and the formwork removed, I would need to insert the LED strips into the profiles. Regarding water, it should not be an issue for the LED strips since they will be underneath the concrete ceiling, where no rain can reach them.

Should it remain just concrete? No insulation underneath or outside the heated envelope?

It is a detached double garage that does not meet any energy efficiency standards (i.e., it has no insulation). They called me crazy when I asked the architect and builder about using insulated bricks right from the start. They said it was unnecessary for a garage.
