Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Yes, I have to wonder too.
Sterility only has a limited place in the kitchen.
Personally, I find it unfortunate when there is no personality visible.
Aesthetic accessories like knife blocks don’t need to be locked away either.
I cook spontaneously.
But in the end, it doesn’t matter—I knew it
@Mycraft @haydee come on... show the showroom owners your living space

I prefer tidy drawers, not ones that are crammed full.

Most kitchens shown here aren’t casual snapshots but the very first ones after moving in. No one here would admit that their kitchen with two kids probably looks messier than mine.
Edit:
Only the photographer dares to post candid shots here.

@ypg I also don’t think your kitchen looks untidy... it looks lived-in, which is actually how it should be.

Thanks
As I said before: this kitchen also looked quite personality-free 5 years ago... I’m happy to tell you that the same will happen with your kitchen too, whether it’s with a second sink, a dishwasher in the corner, or a downdraft extractor – by the second year, it happens :-*

The dishwasher needs to be replaced, and there are pots on the draining board, cutting boards on the peninsula, organic waste (from this morning), a blanket, toys, and other miscellaneous items.

I will upload a photo later this evening when I am home.

Exactly. New contest. Whoever posts the dirtiest kitchen wins a year’s supply of Sagrotan from the loft crew.

My kitchen is not dirty. Dirty and the traces from the morning are two different things. There are no paw prints or any unpleasant smells here.
Only in the morning is there a bit more mess. No leisurely coffee on the balcony in the morning.
This is simply a household where a family has to leave the house in the morning, with a proper breakfast and lunchboxes filled with a variety of foods.
