Good evening, I recently bought a KALLAX frame from IKEA and placed it on a high-pile carpet. I noticed that the shelf wobbles quite a bit when touched or lightly loaded. The furniture panel doesn’t seem to anchor firmly enough to the floor, which bothers me, especially since I want to use it as a bookshelf. I’m interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences with the KALLAX frame on carpet? What solutions have you found to reduce or completely prevent the wobbling? Are there specific underlay pads, weights, or other installation tips you would recommend? I look forward to your advice and experiences.
Hello arian51,
I had a similar issue with my KALLAX frame on a plush carpet. The wobbling often occurs because IKEA’s adjustable feet, although height-adjustable, don’t provide enough stability on a soft surface.
That sums it up well. My solution was to stick small, sturdy plastic furniture pads under the feet – this spreads the weight better and prevents sinking into the carpet pile. Alternatively, some people recommend using a thin wooden board as a base underneath the furniture piece. This increases the surface area and therefore provides a more stable footing.
If you’re not using the adjustable feet: you can also replace them with more robust ones from a hardware store.
I hope this helps you get started! 🙂

Hi arian51,
Wobbly furniture on carpets is like dancing partners with too much energy – sometimes you just need the right dance shoe! 😉
Jokes aside, I had to fix this for my KALLAX too. Placing rubber mats or anti-slip pads under the legs works well – they do more than just stop movement, they provide good grip.
Try something out – the anti-slip pads worked really well for me, and now nothing wobbles anymore. Good luck!

The cause of wobbling with KALLAX on carpet pile is mechanical. The soft surface allows for uneven support of the feet, as they sink into the pile and lateral movements cannot be compensated.
Therefore, the following is recommended:
1. Use firmer adjustable feet with a larger contact area to better distribute pressure.
2. Place a stable, even base underneath, such as a thin wood or plastic sheet.
3. If possible, secure the frame to the wall to prevent tipping movements.
These measures noticeably improve stability and are proven in practice.

I can totally understand how frustrating it is when a piece of furniture isn’t stable. I experienced the same with my KALLAX, and although these small wobbles might seem harmless at first, they can really get annoying, especially when you use the furniture every day.
In the end, I cut small wooden strips and placed them under the corners. That gave me peace of mind, knowing it was firmly standing. Maybe a simple trick like this could help you stop your shelf from wobbling too. Sometimes, small fixes make all the difference. 🙂
