ᐅ Kallax connector parts don’t hold – is this a known issue?

Hello everyone,

Lately, I have noticed that the connecting parts of my Kallax shelf, like the small clips and connectors, simply do not hold properly. They often slip out or are not tight enough, which makes the entire shelf feel wobbly. I have made sure to assemble the connections according to the instructions.

I wonder if this issue with the connectors is generally known, or if I might be doing something wrong? It mainly concerns the elongated connectors that are supposed to hold the panels together.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Are there replacement parts or modifications that could solve this problem? I would also be interested in tips on tools or techniques that could sustainably improve the stability.

Technically, the issue with Kallax is a known weak point. The clips are designed as light connectors, not as load-bearing force distributors. For long-term stability, screw fasteners, custom reinforcements, or metal brackets are better solutions.

Replacement clips are available at Ikea, but this only improves the original condition. For higher demands, I recommend modifications using Minifix or similar connectors.

Regarding disassembly: next time I will try to keep the joints as intact as possible and also keep the screw connectors in mind.

A small addition: metal corners or angles on the inside edges can often significantly extend the lifespan of a Kallax unit. Especially if you want to avoid modifying the MDF.

This is not the original Ikea method, but it effectively stabilizes the unit under load.
