Hello everyone,

I am currently focusing intensely on Ikea Platsa, especially regarding individual and customized DIY projects. I have noticed that there seem to be many creative ideas and modifications that go beyond the standard furniture. To make my search and research more efficient, I would like to know: Is there a community or forum specifically and exclusively dedicated to Ikea PLATSA DIY projects?

I am not looking for a general Ikea thread or a broad DIY forum, but rather a group or platform where people specifically ask questions, share instructions, and exchange ideas related to PLATSA. For example, also with practical tips on assembly options, combinations, special tools, or critical points when extending the system.

Does anyone have experience or a recommendation on where I can find such a resource? I want to avoid sifting through hours of very general posts that loosely cover various Ikea cabinets.

There is also the question of how much DIY work is ultimately possible with PLATSA without compromising the modular system or voiding warranty claims.

From a technical and factual perspective, it is important to observe the static load limits of each module when making any extensions or modifications. PLATSA is fundamentally quite modular and flexible by design; however, load capacities are clearly defined in the manufacturer’s specifications and must be adhered to, especially for freestanding units.

Any changes to fasteners or connecting elements should only be made using identical or compatible materials. Independent drilling, gluing, or modification of the load-bearing profiles may result in loss of manufacturer liability.

There are approved extensions and add-ons offered by Ikea for stabilization purposes, which are recommended. For custom solutions, such as integrating lighting or interior fittings, installing separate support profiles or internal frames is usually advisable to ensure operational safety.

In short: DIY is possible as long as you understand and respect the design principles and do not alter the load-bearing components.

I find this discussion very interesting and see great potential for everyone working with PLATSA. It’s clear there is a desire to create more personalized solutions while still keeping safety in mind.

Personally, I often miss a space for exchanging not just technical details, but also sharing the challenges and frustrations that can come up during remodeling—such as how it feels when an idea sounds great in theory but then fails due to practical constraints.

Maybe we could set up something like a small group or a dedicated thread here in the forum for this purpose. That would take the pressure off having to create a completely new platform, while still providing room for meaningful exchange.

In general, I appreciate that people with different levels of expertise come together here—many DIY videos often show only the finished product, but not the many little hurdles along the way.
