Hello everyone, I’m considering whether it’s possible to retrofit the doors of the IKEA Pax wardrobe with a soft-close function. This question isn’t straightforward for me because I already know the hinges are special and the system probably isn’t designed for soft-close by default. Does anyone have experience or recommendations on how to add a soft-close feature to these doors without completely replacing the hinges or doing major modifications? Specifically, I’m interested in whether retrofit kits are available or if it’s necessary to switch to certain models. Thanks in advance for your insights!

I’m more of a fan of simple external soft-close dampers that you clamp in the hinge area between the cabinet frame and door, in case you don’t want to buy new hinges. However, the effect is often not as smooth as with true soft-close hinges. If you want more comfort, it’s better to replace the hinges.

Hey, a few months ago I installed the soft-close hinges from IKEA on my Pax wardrobe, and I’m really happy with them! Opening the doors stays easy, and closing is completely quiet and smooth. It does take a bit of effort, but it’s definitely worth it.

For anyone looking for a plug-and-play solution: be patient, because there really isn’t one for Pax, as the hinges are the key component here. Maybe you’ll even enjoy the process of installing them yourself and then appreciating the difference afterward!

In summary: Either buy and replace the original soft-close hinges from IKEA or experiment with external dampers. The proper solution is always to replace the hinges.
