ᐅ Insulating the Attic Space: How to Avoid Common Mistakes?

Hi! In our single-family house, only the ceiling between floors has been insulated. We were told, however, that the attic space should definitely be insulated as well, since otherwise, stored items would be exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations.
I did some research online, but apparently, it’s also easy to make mistakes that could even damage the roof structure!
How exactly should I proceed now?

Thanks in advance
Marvin

Alright, thanks... they told me something about extreme temperatures, and I imagined something like plus or minus 100 degrees!

And where would the plus or minus 100 degrees come from?...

Well, it just heats up slowly, like in an oven! That’s what I thought...

In our case, an uninsulated attic with black roof tiles can reach 60°C (140°F) in summer and drop to -10°C (14°F) in winter. Wine, valuable paintings, and similar items should therefore not be stored there. However, furniture, toys, and clothing are not affected.

Exactly. Plus 60°C (140°F) and possibly minus 20°C (-4°F) if it really gets extremely cold outside, around -30°C (-22°F), but no more than that.
I don’t think a bachelor’s thesis, a child’s walker, or plant pots will be affected by this.

Well, but just as fast as the heat can enter, it can also escape again... overnight, for example...

Temperature is one thing, humidity another. I wouldn’t store furniture or textiles up there. Other items, which could just as well be stored in a garage, are fine though.

As a flat roof owner, I believe that the additional costs result in a significantly improved usable area in terms of quality. Others invest heavily in excavation for that purpose.
