Hello,

I want to repurpose a kitchen cabinet as a built-in hallway cabinet because I have exactly 180cm (70.9 inches) of space available.

The hallway ceiling is 2.60m (8 feet 6 inches) high, but there are baseboards at the bottom, so the width available at the very bottom few centimeters is only 1.78m (5 feet 10 inches).

However, three Metod tall cabinets should fit perfectly.

So here is my question:

I want to make full use of the height as much as possible. That probably means combining a 2m (6 feet 7 inches) tall cabinet with a 40cm (15.7 inches) high upper cabinet (or of course three such combinations side by side). Together with the legs, the total height would be approximately 2.50m (8 feet 2 inches).

Now, I would like to have a 40cm (15.7 inches) high drawer at the very bottom, preferably one that doesn’t get hidden behind the door.

Is it possible to place the upper cabinet beneath the tall cabinet? Or is it possible to simply install a 40cm (15.7 inches) high drawer with its front at the bottom, and position the 2m (6 feet 7 inches) tall door above?

Oh, and one small question: It’s not necessary to install a stabilizing shelf exactly in the middle of the tall cabinet, right? I want to hang a (somewhat improvised) clothes rail inside.

I hope you mean at least 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in). If the 180 cm (70.9 inches) is even slightly shorter at one spot, you will have a problem.

Yes, if you use the wall cabinet for a fridge/freezer unit.

That also works; that is actually the special feature of Metod. Doors can be mounted across multiple cabinet carcasses.

No, that is not necessary. When the carcasses are screwed together, they stabilize each other. The back panel and the tight niche add further stability.
Not much DIY is needed for the clothes rail. Hardware stores offer hanging clothes rails and suitable brackets for them.
